Sunderland returned to winning ways in the Premier League on Monday night with a narrow 1-0 victory over Crystal Palace away from home.
The Black Cats headed into the encounter at Selhurst Park in London on the back of a 1-0 defeat to Southampton at the Stadium of Light.
Palace were expected to win on Monday night, as they were in better form and were at home.
However, Sunderland stunned the home crowd by picking up all three points at Selhurst Park.
Jermaine Defoe’s goal in the 80th minute proved to be the difference between the two teams, and the players celebrated in style (see photos above and below).
Over the course of the 90 minutes at Selhurst Park, Sunderland had 33% of the possession, took 12 shots of which just four were on target, and earned two corners.
The Black Cats are third from bottom in the Premier League table at the moment with nine points from 13 matches, just a point behind 17th-place Newcastle United.
