According to a report in the Daily Mail, Nice duo Vincent Koziello and Nampalys Mendy are just two of a number of names which Arsenal are looking at ahead of January.
It leaves Wenger short on options through the middle, what with Jack Wilshere and Aaron Ramsey nursing their own injuries and Mathieu Flamini and Mikel Arteta somewhat past their prime.
An addition or two in January now seems a must for Arsenal and the usual names such as William Carvalho, Vincent Wanyama and Check Tiote have remain as options.
But the Daily Mail now list two other possibilities in Nice duo Koziello and Mendy, stating: “Arsenal have also watched Nice duo Vincent Koziello and Nampalys Mendy. January looks like the perfect time to finally follow through with what they've been threatening for over two years."
Koziello, 20, is an intriguing prospect yet he isn’t the right fit for Arsenal in their current position, aiming for a league title.
That said, Wenger notoriously avoids big-money deals in January and teams will know of their current predicament, prompting an expected increase in price-tags in order to take advantage.
Wanyama and Carvalho can almost be dismissed as a result, but what about Mendy?
The 23-year-old has previously been dubbed as the new Claude Makelele due to their similarities in stature and playing style, and he’s a player which would certainly be cheaper than the aforementioned.
The former France under-21 international has featured 14 times in Ligue 1 this season, impressing in a number of key defensive areas as Nice challenge towards the top of the table.
