Tottenham Hotspur are 'on the brink' of signing Alexandre Pato - The Sun reported this week.
Negotiations are reported to be beginning, with the paper suggested Pato will cost in the region of £10 million.
The 26-year-old was once Brazilian football's brightest prospect, signing as a teenager with AC Milan. The Italian giants had hoped Pato would go on to emulate Kaka's Ballon d'Or and Champions League winning success at the club.
Transfermarkt value him at £7.7 million - but recorded his 'peak' at £24.5 million in 2010.
At AC Milan he did not entirely disappoint. He played 150 games for the club, scoring 63 goals, but faded as his time went on and eventually sought a new challenge.
He has not played for Brazil since 2013, and missed out on the World Cup, a prospect unthinkable when he was making his name in Italy. He has been playing back in his homeland, on loan with Sao Paolo from Corinthians, and netted 15 goals last season.
Now his agent is bidding to secure him a move back to Europe, and a back up role for Harry Kane could be his best option, for a Tottenham side which is going places under Mauricio Pochettino.
The prospects of signing the former sensation has fans quietly encouraged, if a little sceptical. Here is a look at how supporters reacted to the escalation of the rumours...
I really don't think we should sign Pato in Jan, but if we do, it's because Poch has a plan for him. And in that case, I'm all in. #COYS— Sean Relph (@SeanRelph) November 24, 2015
