Former Nottingham Forest and Aston Villa striker Stan Collymore has explained in The Mirror why he rates Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Dele Alli so highly.
Alli is enjoying a breakthrough season at Tottenham this campaign and has already earned call-ups to the England national team.
The 19-year-old former Milton Keynes Dons’ player’s performances in midfield this season have been superb.
Collymore is impressed with what he has seen of Alli so far and has explained why he rates him so highly.
“What I love most about him is that he’s not a defensive midfielder, he’s not an attacking midfielder, just a midfielder,” the former England international wrote in The Mirror.
“He can tackle - he put in good challenges leading to both goals against France - and he does it properly, he doesn’t just lunge in.”
Alli is arguably the best teenage footballer in the Premier League at the moment and has genuine quality.
True, there is hype over his emergence this season, but the youngster’s consistent good displays in midfield for Spurs and England suggest that he will prove to be a long-term success.
The England international has scored two goals and created 12 chances in 12 Premier League appearances for Tottenham so far this season.
Alli has a pass accuracy of 77% and a shot accuracy of 60%, and has won seven headers, 11 dribbles and 24 tackles.
