Newcastle United will be looking to bounce back from the defeat to Leicester City with victory over Crystal Palace this coming weekend.
The Netherlands international, who can play as an attacking midfielder or as a striker, is fully fit now, but he is struggling for playing time in the first team at the moment.
De Jong has yet to start a game in the Premier League for Newcastle this season, and he has admitted that he does not know if he will get the chance to do so against Palace at Selhurst Park on Saturday afternoon.
“I don’t know,” the 26-year-old told The Shields Gazette when asked if he was expecting a chance against Palace. “I’ll just wait to get my chance.”
“I speak to him (manager Steve McClaren) a lot,” added De Jong. “He thinks I’ll get my chance, so I have to be ready for it.”
Newcastle will head into Saturday’s game on the back of a 3-0 defeat to Leicester City at St. James’ Park.
At the start of the season, the Magpies were expected to push for a top-10 finish in the Premier League, but they are now in danger of getting relegated to the Championship.
Steve McClaren’s side are just a point above the bottom three and are in dire form at the moment.
Newcastle are struggling to score goals, even at home, and are also conceding cheaply.
