Aston Villa manager Remi Garde has told the Birmingham Mail that defender Aly Cissokho could make his return to Villa Park this season.
Garde, who watched his side lose 4-0 at Everton on Saturday, has been dealt a major blow with the news that summer signing Jordan Amavi has been ruled out for the rest of the season with a knee injury.
That has left Villa scrambling for a solution at left back, with Kieran Richardson the player given the nod against Everton - though he was tormented by Gerard Deulofeu throughout.
That means Garde may have to look elsewhere, with Villa having two left backs out on loan in Aly Cissokho and Joe Bennett, who are playing at Porto and Bournemouth respectively.
Cissoko, 28, is a particularly interesting option considering that he played under new Villa boss Garde during their time together at Lyon, before he moved on to play for Valencia, Liverpool and Villa.
With that history in mind, many Villa fans have wondered whether Cissokho could make an early return from loan spell at Porto, given the desperate need for a left back.
Now, Garde has tackled those suggestions, telling the Birmingham Mail that whilst he hasn't spoke to Cissokho about returning, a reunion between the French duo could happen.
"We will see. This is an option. It’s an opportunity," said Garde. "I haven’t spoken to him yet but I know him because he played for me at Lyon. We will see what happens and whether there is another option or not," he added.
