Phil Thompson praises fantastic change Slaven Bilic has made at West Ham United

West Ham United are now playing with attacking flair, and have scored 24 Premier League goals to date.

Phil Thompson has told Sky Sports Soccer Saturday, which was broadcast on November 21st, that Slaven Bilic has made a 'fantastic' change at West Ham United, by allowing more flair players to start.

The Hammers have been one of the Premier League’s most threatening sides this season, and they have racked up an impressive number of goals as a result.

With the likes of Victor Moses, Dimitri Payet and Manuel Lanzini all seeing regular action, West Ham have troubled defences throughout the division.

And Thompson said: “They are a different challenge, and they have started to relish the counter attack.

“It’s fantastic that Bilic can have a good mix. They still have a good defence, but now he’s allowing those three behind the front-man to be flair players. Sam [Allardyce] might have one, but he’s got three or four.

“They can keep possession and hurt people.”

West Ham have netted on 24 occasions already this season, and only two teams in England’s top-flight have been able to better that return.

It highlights the quality of West Ham’s squad, but Bilic’s side now need to prove that they can continue to be a threat without Payet.

The French creator has been West Ham’s talisman over the course of the campaign so far, but he is set for a three-month spell on the sidelines.

West Ham’s first match without him – against Tottenham Hotspur – didn’t go to plan, as they fell to a 4-1 defeat.

However, the Hammers will be looking to bounce back quickly, with their next match coming against West Bromwich Albion on Saturday.
