Former Arsenal attacker Paul Merson suggested on the Gillette Soccer Saturday show on Sky Sports News HQ on Saturday afternoon (November 21) that Aston Villa manager Remi Garde should make more use of Jack Grealish.
“For me, they (Villa) have to win football matches, so you have to take a chance,” said Merson. “Jack, just go out and play. I have to work around you because 20 0-0s will get you relegated. So you need something.”
Merson made the comments before Villa’s Premier League game against Everton away from home at Goodison Park.
Grealish, who can play as an attacking midfielder or as a winger, started the match and played for 74 minutes, but he failed to make a huge impact on the final result.
The 20-year-old took one shot, had a pass accuracy of 88%, created four chances, attempted four dribbles, and made four interceptions and two blocks.
Villa, who headed into the game at Goodison Park on the back of a goalless draw with Manchester City at Villa Park, suffered a 4-0 defeat to Everton.
Garde’s side are at the foot of the Premier League table at the moment with just five points from 13 matches, five points behind 17th-place Newcastle United.
