Agent of MLS goal-machine Sebastian Giovinco discusses future plans

Sebastian Giovinco looks set to remain with Toronto, despite reported interest from both Tottenham Hotspur and Barcelona.

Sebastian Giovinco's agent has insisted to Calciomercato that his client will not be leaving MLS, despite interest from both Tottenham and Barcelona.

The 28-year-old has been in sensational form for Toronto FC this season, and currently stands as the competition's joint-leading goalscorer with 22 strikes to his name. His performances have led to speculation linking him with a return to Europe, but Andrea D'Amico has ruled out a move, including a temporary deal over the winter.

"A return to Europe? Sebastian has never considered returning. The club has made him the cornerstone of their project - They're definitely not willing to sell him," he said.

"They want to build their team around him. Can a loan [in January] be ruled out? Yes, there's absolutely no doubt," he added.

Giovinco was arguably one of the first top players in Europe to head over to North America during the peak of their career, and despite the perceived drop in competition in MLS, he had done enough during his time with the Canadian outfit to earn a place in the Italy squad as recently as October.

A move to Tottenham would have arguably provided the former Juventus man with a much stronger opportunity to stake his claim for a place in Antonio Conte's side for next summer's European Championships.

However, his agent's insistence that he will not be going anywhere may sufficiently harm his chances of earning a place at the competition, especially as - with Toronto's season over - he now faces several months away from competitive action.
