Jamaal Lascelles hails Newcastle's 16-year-old striker Lewis McNall

St James Park Newcastle

The young forward is excelling in Newcastle United's youth ranks this season.

Newcastle United defender Jamaal Lascelles has been speaking to the club’s official website about Magpies youngster Lewis McNall.

The 16-year-old has been in sensational form for Newcastle’s under-18 side this season, scoring a quite remarkable 10 goals in 10 starts, and those performances saw him rewarded with a place among the under-21s earlier this week.

McNall could not get on the score-sheet on that occasion but it is another big step in the right direction and Lascelles for one was impressed with what he saw.

Speaking to nufc.co.uk this week, Lascelles said, “I was really pleased for the boys; a few young boys played and Gally (Owen Gallacher) and Macca (McNall) were excellent.”

Big things are expected of both players with Gallacher being another exciting young striker, but McNall is the one really making waves at St James’ Park right now and expect him to get his first goal at under-21 level sooner rather than later.

Along with the likes of Adam Armstrong and Ayoze Perez Newcastle have a number of exciting young goal-scorers in their ranks, and while fans will not be getting carried away by McNall’s progress, he is certainly one to keep a very close eye on.
