Southampton star Jay Rodriguez will undergo surgery on his foot on Tuesday and is set to be out for eight weeks, according to reports.
Sky Sports News claims that the Englishman is due to have an operation on a nerve in his foot, and is likely to be sidelined for the remainder of 2015.
The news will come as a bitter blow for Rodriguez, who has been slowly recovering from a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament injury in his right knee.
The problem saw him miss out on England’s 2014 World Cup squad in Brazil, and the latest setback now means Rodriguez faces a race against time if he wants to be selected for Roy Hodgson’s Euro 2016 team.
The 26-year-old had managed to make 12 appearances this season as Southampton go in search of European football, and Saints fans will be hoping he can make a full recovery in time for the trip to Manchester United in late January.
