Harry Kane is the only Tottenham Hotspur player with more than four goals this season.
Although Thompson believes that the Lilywhites’ goal threat is improved by having Dele Alli and Eric Dier alongside each other in midfield, he still feels that they need to add a greater cutting edge.
The former Liverpool man has faith in Christian Eriksen and Harry Kane hitting the back of the net, but he would like to see some other members of Spurs’ squad step up and start getting on the scoresheet regularly.
"They have a blend now, with Dier and Dele Alli," Thompson said. "When they had Mason and Bentaleb in midfield they were both the same.
"Alli plays just in-front. And he gives them that extra threat – a goalscoring threat.
"That’s part of the problem with Spurs. Kane scores, Eriksen might get you a goal here and there, but there isn’t enough threat for me."
Tottenham’s top scorer this season is Kane, who has nine goals to his name already.
Beyond that, it has been a team effort, with Erik Lamela’s total of four goals putting him in second place in Spurs’ scoring charts.
Tottenham’s lack of a second proven goalscorer does not seem to have affected their chances though, as they have been one of the most impressive teams in the Premier League this term.
Spurs are unbeaten in their last 12 league matches, having beaten West Ham United 4-1 in their latest outing, and they are now just two points outside the top four.
