Phil Thompson outlines how Premier League teams view West Ham now

Phil Thompson believes that West Ham United are getting more respect now than they did in the opening weeks of the season.

Liverpool legend Phil Thompson said on the Gillette Soccer Saturday show on Sky Sports News HQ on Saturday afternoon (November 21) that West Ham United are getting more respect now than they did at the start of the season.

“Now they are getting the respect,” said the former Liverpool defender. “Early on, I think, teams were still thinking ‘Oh, this is still West Ham’. And West Ham done Arsenal early on, they done Liverpool early on.”

West Ham may have lost to Tottenham Hotspur at White Hart Lane on Sunday evening, but that should not take anything away from the wonderful season they are having.

Slaven Bilic’s side have won against Arsenal (away), Liverpool (away), Manchester City (away) and Chelsea (home) in the Premier League this campaign.

The Hammers have taken the game to their opponents and have not shown any fear, even away from home.

Big teams in the Premier League are certainly more wary of West Ham now, especially as they have some very good attacking players.

It remains to be seen whether the London outfit can maintain their form for the rest of the season, but they are certainly a team one would pay to watch at the moment.
