Report: Chelsea begin talks with Willian over contract extension

Willian is set to be rewarded for his excellent form by being offered a contract extension at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea are planning to reward Willian following his impressive start to the season by offering the playmaker a brand new contract that would see his weekly wage increase to £100,000 a week, the London Evening Standard report.

The 27-year-old's current deal at Stamford Bridge expires in 2018 but the Blues plan to extend his stay in the Premier League by at least two more years.

The Evening Standard suggest talks will reach a conclusion imminently.

The decision to award Willian a new contract comes after a run of form that has seen the Brazil international establish himself as arguably the one player in Chelsea's squad to maintain their performance levels from last season.

With five goals in all competitions - which makes him the Blues' top goalscorer this term - his form has prevented Jose Mourinho's side from suffering further embarrassment.

And, while their hopes of retaining their Premier League title appear to have been dashed already, Saturday's victory over Norwich hinted that the Blues are starting to get their act together.

Should the likes of Eden Hazard, Diego Costa and Cesc Fabregas bring their own games up to the level Willian has set so far, it may not be too late for the champions to put a run together that salvages something positive from this campaign, despite their dreadful start.
