Garth Crooks makes a damning comment about Newcastle boss Steve McClaren

Newcastle United are just above the Premier League relegation zone at the moment.

Former Tottenham Hotspur forward Garth Crooks has written on BBC Sport that Newcastle United manager Steve McClaren is out of his depth.

Crooks, who was on the books of Tottenham from 1980 to 1985, made the comment following Newcastle’s 3-0 defeat to Leicester City at St. James’ Park in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.

“At the moment Newcastle look like a spent force and McClaren out of his depth,” the Englishman wrote on BBC Sport. “A dangerous position to find himself, especially now managers like David Moyes are suddenly available.”

Newcastle were expected by many to challenge for a top-10 finish in the Premier League this season, but they are in real danger of getting relegated to the Championship.

The Magpies’ performances have been disappointing and the results far from ideal so far this campaign.

McClaren’s side are just a point above the relegation zone at the moment, and things are dire.

Newcastle are a big club and attract almost 50,000 fans for every home game, and the players need to step up their game in the coming weeks.

The Magpies will take on Crystal Palace away from home at Selhurst Park in the Premier League next weekend.
