Why Jordan Botaka must start for Leeds against QPR

Elland Road Revie Stand

Leeds United need the additional spark the young winger can offer from the outset.

Leeds United suffered their first defeat in three Championship matches when they lost 1-0 to Rotherham United on Saturday, and such was the Whites’ overall performance that manager Steve Evans has some big decisions to make ahead of their next game against Queens Park Rangers.

Leeds have a full week to prepare for that clash at Loftus Road and it is time Evans injected more pace into his starting line-up by showing his faith in summer signing Jordan Botaka.

That is not the only change Leeds should make, with the likes of Sam Byram and potentially Lee Erwin also deserving more minutes, but Botaka is the wildcard that could transform the Whites’ campaign.

The 22-year-old DR Congo international has shown in his cameo appearances what an exciting player he is, and just how much of an attacking threat he is to the opposition, so surely the time has come for Evans to throw him in from the start.

Botaka has made seven appearances for Leeds to date but he has rarely been given the chance to show what he can do from the outset.

There is plenty to be said about having an exciting attacking option coming off the bench but Leeds’ play needs more spark from the start, not only when the game is getting away from them.

So what chance Botaka starting in a week’s time?
