Manchester City winger Raheem Sterling endured a miserable Saturday evening as his side were crushed 4-1 by former club Liverpool at the Etihad Stadium.
The England international dominated the headlines last summer, first by refusing to sign a new Liverpool contract and then by declaring his intentions to leave in order to achieve more 'success.'
City splashed out big for his services, a situation which ultimately riled the Liverpool supporters.
Sterling’s contributions so far this season have been good yet his performance against the Reds was always going to take centre stage and be heavily analysed. And it just never happened for him.

As Opta stats show, the talented winger produced very little as his side couldn’t contain a Liverpool team bursting with energy under Jurgen Klopp.
Sterling played the entire 90 minutes, failing to register a single shot on goal and ultimately being dispossessed more times than take-ons completed or chances created for his team-mates.
The Reds were utterly brilliant, leaving City shell-shocked as they raced into a three-goal lead after just 32 minutes, with Brazilian duo Philippe Coutinho and Roberto Firmino wreaking havoc.
Despite Sergio Aguero pulling one back, Sterling and his side’s evening was destined to be miserable and defender Martin Skrtel put the icing on Liverpool’s cake with a fine late finish.
As can be seen in the photo below, Sterling’s evening can be summed up by the anguished look on his face. It’s a result that could leave him reeling for some time.
