Norwich and Sunderland battle for Ron Vlaar - report

The Mirror state the Premier League duo are interested in the Dutch centre-half.

Norwich and Sunderland are locked in a battle to sign experience Dutch centre-half Ron Vlaar, with The Mirror stating that the Premier League pair want to sign the free agent now he is fit again.

The former Aston Villa stalwart was released by the club in the summer and has been undergoing rehabilitation for a serious knee injury that has kept him out of action for eight months.

Vlaar has been recuperating back in the Netherlands and is closing in on full fitness again, but is now without a club.

The 30-year-old has offers from Germany and England according to The Mirror, with both Norwich and Sunderland interested in landing the star on a free transfer.

The report suggests that Everton are not interested in landing the defender.

Both the Canaries and Black Cats are expected to be embroiled in a relegation battle this season, with someone of Vlaar’s experience surely a positive asset to the respective sides.

The former Feyenoord man has 31 caps for the Netherlands and stepped out for Villa over 75 times in the space of three years at the Midlands club.
