Berahino hit 14 Premier League goals last season, yet so far this campaign his tally stands at just three.
Speaking to reporters on his form, Pulis says the striker still hasn’t fully recovered from his failed move to Spurs and as a result, he hasn’t quite hit the highs of last season.
“He’s still not near what he was at the back end of last season. His form has dropped and dipped but the penny’s dropped and he has to be switched on,” Pulis said.
“The kid realises and understands that - irrespective of what we do as a club - he’s got to be right in himself “He’s definitely got his head down but it did affect Saido.”
“That was a deep cut. It was something he hasn’t experienced. The opportunity of going to a top four or five club, and not getting a move that he thought was going to just happen, really shook him.”
Berahino possesses an abundance of ability but so far he is struggling to live up to his form of last season, a situation which could put Spurs, or anybody else, off making a future bid.
With Tottenham bringing in Heung-Min Son and fellow attacking players Erik Lamela and Mousa Dembele performing so well, one has to question whether a potential Spurs switch is still plausible.
Berahino could be in danger of missing out on a potential move next summer unless he improves.
