Boro beat Queens Park Rangers 1-0 on Friday night.
It was Grant Leadbitter who netted the late penalty and winner for Middlesbrough against QPR on Friday night. But the Championship promotion contenders also had Adam Clayton to thank after a superb display from the midfielder.
And Boro fans did just that on Twitter after the game, praising the 26-year-old after a result that leaves Aitor Karanka's side third in the Championship table after Saturday's action.
Middlesbrough supporters were less enamoured with their team's performance as a whole. Many felt it was a laboured 90-minute display and it was only a late spot-kick that separated Boro from QPR, of course.
But at least fans of the Teesside outfit aren't in the position of the R's faithful. Several points separate the two teams in the table now and, no matter how close the scoreline was, Friday was another big boost for Boro in their promotion push.
Clayton impressed in particular for Middlesbrough and the praise poured in for the 26-year-old midfielder on social media after the game. Next up for Karanka's men is a trip to Huddersfield Town, while QPR host Leeds United.
Here's how Boro fans reacted on Twitter to Clayton's performance against the West London side:
I think across Teesside we breathe a huge sigh of relief! Clayton MOM again, but huge testicles on Leadbitter #UTB— Stuart Buckle (@Scubie77) November 20, 2015
My days that was ordinary graft for the Boro tonight. QPR excellent defensively and credit to the Boro - kept plugging away. Clayton quality— Kevin Graham (@webblyhead) November 20, 2015
@Clayts15 well played last night fella. Roll on Huddersfield!— Danny Beardmore (@DannyGuitarUATR) November 21, 2015
