Michael Owen reacts on Twitter to Jamie Vardy performance, jokes about relegation

Michael Owen

The Leicester City forward equaled Ruud van Nistelrooy's record against Newcastle United on Saturday afternoon.

Michael Owen was delighted for Jamie Vardy after he scored for Leicester City against Newcastle United on Saturday afternoon.

Vardy netted during his 10th Premier League game in a row as Leicester won 3-0 at Newcastle, equaling Ruud van Nistelrooy's previous record.

The Foxes forward now has the chance to beat Van Nistelrooy's record against the Dutchman's former club Manchester United next week - how sweet would that be?

Owen, meanwhile, took to Twitter to heap praise on the striker's 'amazing' achievement.

And the Manchester United man also joked that he thought Leicester would get relegated at the start of the season!

Dream land for both Vardy and Leicester, then, who actually remain top of the Premier League table after Manchester City's 4-1 home defeat to Liverpool.

For Newcastle, though, as always it seems, every week brings another poor performance. Even during the Magpies' last game - a win against Bournemouth - Steve McClaren's men were slated for a terrible display.

Just what does McClaren do in training? Anything at all? What he'd give for a player in as much form as Vardy right now. Luckily for Leicester, he belongs to them...
