Jamie Carragher reacts on Twitter to Liverpool's performance versus Manchester City

Liverpool defeated Manchester City 4-1 at the Etihad Stadium.

Jamie Carragher has taken to social networking site Twitter to air his astonishment at Liverpool’s performance during their incredible 4-1 win over Manchester City.

The Reds went into the clash as firm underdogs, as injuries at Anfield mount and the recent defeat at home to Crystal Palace seemed to knock the stuffing out of them a little.

City, in contrast, led the table ahead of the weekend and had Sergio Aguero back in contention.

However, a blistering start from the visitors rocked the apple cart as an own goal from Eliquim Mangala, plus further striker from Philippe Coutinho and Firmino, gave the Reds a commanding lead.

Aguero pulled one back before half-time, yet an expected second-half onslaught never arrived and instead Jurgen Klopp’s men restored their three-goal advantage through Martin Skrtel.

Writing on Twitter during the encounter, Carragher struggled to contain his excitement.

The arrival of Klopp has evidently raised spirits around Anfield and performances on the whole have been better, despite a lack of goals being an obvious hindrance.

Against City, Klopp’s side pressed him up the pitch but really made their turnovers count, supplying a cutting edge in the final third and ruthlessly punishing City’s mistakes.

It wasn’t chances galore for Liverpool, they were prolific on the counter and they needed to make their opportunities count as City generally boasted a tight defence at the Etihad Stadium.

After wins over Chelsea and The Citizens, Klopp’s biggest challenge now is to help his side find the consistency which will help push them up the Premier League table towards the top four.
