According to a report in the Italian publication Tuttomercatoweb, Celtic are in the mix to sign free agent Gaby Mudingayi following his release from A.C Cesena.
The veteran 34-year-old has been out of action since departing the Italian minnows over the summer. It is not the first time they have been linked, with the Daily Record suggesting their interest in May 2014.
Predominantly a central midfielder, Mudingayi has represented Lazio, Bolgona and Inter Milan in Serie A as well as the Belgian national team on 17 occasions between 2003 and 2008.
As per the report in Tuttomercatoweb, his wait for a new club could be over as both Greek giants Panathinaikos and Scottish champions Celtic go head-to-head for his signature.
The report goes on to say that an important announcement is imminent, where - over the next few hours - the disclosure of his new club could come to light.
For Celtic, it may come as a surprise to see them interested in Mudingayi, though boss Ronny Delia may seek further experience within the squad in order to aid his younger stars.
The likes of Nir Bitton, Stuart Armstrong and Stefan Johansen are all evidently established players but perhaps an experienced player could help their development further.
Mudingayi played 69 times for Lazio and he made a further 128 appearances for Bologna before moving to Inter Milan, acquiring plenty of know-how in Serie A plus key tactical intelligence.
A move to Parkhead on a free transfer could be of great benefit to the Scottish champions.
