Slaven Bilic discusses replacing the injured Dimitri Payet

Dimitri Payet is out of action until the New Year.

West Ham star Payet is set to be out of action until 2016, and Slaven Bilic has spoken to the official club website to discuss his replacement in the first-team over the coming months.

Bilic said: “We are going to miss him, definitely, and it's a big loss for us. We are going to miss him, but we are not going to play with ten players. To be honest, it is difficult to replace him because he is irreplaceable. It’s a question mark for me as well. On the other hand, we are not only Payet. We now have a lot of quality players and those who play will have to share that burden, step up and do more for us to ensure we feel his absence less.”

There are two players expected to step up to fill the creative void left by Payet, now that the Frenchman is set to be out of action until the New Year.

Manuel Lanzini has already proven his talent this season, and he will likely move from the left-wing to a central number 10 role to take up the main playmaking task.

If the Argentine does move centrally, Mauro Zarate can come back into the starting XI and take up the wing position, and that tactical switch is the expected change.

However, there is another player Bilic could call upon, although the head coach has shown little faith in using Michail Antonio this term.

The summer signing from Nottingham Forest has played just 30 minutes of Premier League action this season, and throwing him into the Premier League simply because of Payet’s absence could be a risk.

Losing Payet is a big blow for the Hammers, and their ambitions of qualifying for European football, and even Bilic has admitted that he does not know how to replace the Frenchman in his team.
