Sunderland midfielder Jordi Gomez has been speaking to the Chronicle and believes that his team-mates have the ability to secure a vital win over Crystal Palace on Monday night.
Sunderland have already overseen a change of manager, with Sam Allardyce replacing last season’s survival hero Dick Advocaat, and fans will be hoping the former West Ham United boss can bring the good times back to Wearside.
However, Sunderland face a tough run of fixtures next month against the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester City and Liverpool, and Gomez believes the upcoming clash against Crystal Palace must not be taken lightly.
The Spaniard scored in last season’s 3-1 win at Selhurst Park, a victory which helped Sunderland to climb out of the relegation zone, and Gomez is hopeful that the Black Cats can make the most of their opportunities on the night.
“We had a great game there last year, got three points and hopefully we can do the same again,” the Chronicle quotes him as saying.
“We were near the bottom and then won that game, so hopefully history will repeat itself this season and we can carry on from there.
“We need the points again and the confidence to get more results. There’s been small details in games which have gone against us. We have to make sure those details go for us and then we can start picking up points.”
Sunderland are currently sat 19th in the Premier League standings, four points adrift of safety.
