Former Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp has suggested in The London Evening Standard that Saido Berahino would not be a good signing for Chelsea.
According to The Guardian, Chelsea are interested in signing the striker from Premier League rivals West Bromwich Albion in the January transfer window.
It has been reported that the Blues are willing to spend as much as £20 million in order to secure the services of the 22-year-old.
Former Tottenham and West Ham manager Redknapp does not believe that Berahino would improve Chelsea’s current squad.
“One report suggested they could go for Saido Berahino from West Brom,” the Englishman wrote in The London Evening Standard. “Is he going to improve their team? I don’t think so.
“They should only go for proven quality at the highest level and it is hard to sign players like that at the best of times but especially in January.”
Berahino is a good striker and has been at West Brom his entire career so far.
Although the youngster has the experience of playing in the Premier League, he is not at the level to play for a club like Chelsea yet.
The Englishman scored 14 goals and created 28 chances in 38 league matches last season.
So far this campaign, Berahino has scored three goals and created three chances in 10 Premier League matches.
