The Magpies will take on Leicester at St. James’ Park in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon, and former Newcastle striker Shearer expects the home team to at least pick up a point.
“That lucky win at Bournemouth will count for nothing if they don’t get three points against Leicester,” Shearer told The Shields Gazette.
“They’re a decent team, particularly going forward, where they’re a big threat. It doesn’t faze them going behind, so Newcastle will have to watch that.
“But I would still expect Newcastle to take something from the game, despite Leicester’s record.”
Newcastle are in real danger of getting relegated from the Premier League at the end of the season.
The Magpies are just above the relegation zone, and they do need to pick up all three points on Saturday.
Steve McClaren’s side won 1-0 against Bournemouth away from home at the Vitality Stadium just before the two-week international break.
Newcastle were the second best team in that match, and they were indeed lucky to have won it.
Leicester are having a fabulous season and will head to St. James’ Park with confidence.
For the Magpies to get a positive result from the game, they need to score the first goal.
