Antonio joined West Ham during the summer transfer window, after impressing for Nottingham Forest over the past two seasons.
However, the winger has played just one match for the Hammers so far, and Gale believes that the wide-man deserves an extended run in the team.
"He hasn't had a chance yet," said Gale. "He needs to have a chance to see if he can do it because you will never know unless he gets in the team. He played some great stuff with Forest, has got pace, so hopefully he gets a chance and we can judge either way whether he has what it takes to do it regularly."
Antonio was one of the standout players in the Championship prior to his move to West Ham, and it has been a surprise to see him struggle so much for game time.
Antonio’s failure to break into the Hammers team does highlight how fierce the competition for places is at Upton Park, though, with Slaven Bilic assembling one of the most talented squads in England.
West Ham have a number of attacking options, and they have excelled in Antonio’s absence to date.
The 25-year-old could be in line to receive an increased amount of opportunities in the coming weeks, though, as Bilic will need other players to step up and cover for the loss of Dimitri Payet to injury.
