Manager Slaven Bilic will be hoping that they can get over the loss of their star man against Tottenham this weekend.
The French midfielder has been the star of the show for Slaven Bilic’s side this season, with a number of fine performances since signing in the summer.
He is now facing a spell on the side-lines though, after a strong challenge from Everton’s James McCarthy left him injured for the next three months.
That is sure to be a big blow to the Hammers, with them currently sitting 6th in the table and Payet having been a big part of that success.
They will need somebody to step up and replace their key man, and Zarate says he is ready to play his part.
“Injuries are always really bad, but even more when they are injuries to important players,” he told whufc.com.
“Dimitri is an important player for us, so we have to do our best [in his absence]. If I am needed to play, I am always ready to start. We are ready to win and to come back to the good way.”
While Payet’s injury is a big blow for West Ham, it does represent an even bigger opportunity for Zarate to make his mark.
The forward has managed to impress when given the chance this season, and will he hoping to do so on a more consistent basis in the Frenchman’s absence.
There is no denying however, that their star man will be sorely missed in his absence, until Zarate or a teammate can prove otherwise.
