Report: Everton to do battle with Porto for talented Italian right-back Cristiano Piccini

The Real Betis man is a target for both clubs in their hunt for a new defender.

Everton are all set to battle Porto for a January transfer, according to reports in Italy.

The window is now looming nearer and nearer and it seems Everton are getting their targets lined up. One such player is said to be Cristiano Piccini.

Tutto Mercato Web is reporting today that Everton will fight for the services of the defender with Portuguese giants Porto after his impressive form in La Liga.

The Italian helped Betis to promotion last season whilst on a loan deal from Fiorentina and made the move permanent in the summer.

He has continued that good form for the Verdiblancos in the Spanish top-flight and that has attracted the suitors mentioned.

The 23-year-old is a right-back - a position where Everton need to add cover.

Seamus Coleman is currently their only recognised right-back. Tony Hibbert is perpetually injured and Tyias Browning is a centre-back by-trade.

Piccini would therefore be a brilliant addition to the side but there is no doubt Porto will be worthy adversaries in the transfer market.
