The Tottenham Hotspur youngster wasn't fazed when he came up against two of the best central midfielders in the world this season.
Tottenham youngster Dele Alli has impressed to no end for both club and country this term. And his fearlessness and ambition can be demonstrated with two episodes of this season.
Firstly, when the 19-year-old was far from as well-known as he is now - considered more of a promising sign for the future by Tottenham fans - he took on Luka Modric during a pre-season friendly.
He duly nutmegged the Croatian and imposed himself against one of the best teams in the world in Real Madrid.
And, just this week, the teenager came up against another central midfielder treated as one of the best in the world: Paul Pogba.
Like the rest of the France side, Pogba clearly had other things on his mind after last Friday's tragic Paris attacks. But he still came on and controlled most of the play against England.
That was only after Alli took the ball off him, though, setting up the Three Lions' second goal against the French.
Both Pogba and Modric, then, have come up against the 19-year-old and come off worse.
They were only friendlies, of course, but Alli has hardly flattered to deceive on the big stage, either.
At this stage, those saying the Spurs midfielder is 'only young' are missing the point. There's little doubt Alli will go on to experience big things - and already is.
Naturally, the Tottenham youngster shouldn't be over-hyped. But his achievements so far mean any high praise is well deserved.
