The 33-year-old midfielder joined the Championship outfit as a free agent in the summer transfer window after leaving Queens Park Rangers at the end of last season.
“I'll be honest: I wasn't sure if it would work out but it's proved a masterstroke; he's been one of the best midfielders in the Championship,” Hinchcliffe wrote about Barton on Skysports.com.
“He’s kept a lid on things; perhaps he's thinking he hasn't got many years left in the game and here's a chance to end on a high.”
Barton has proven to be a superb signing for Burnley, who got relegated from the Premier League at the end of last season.
The former Newcastle United midfielder has featured in seven Championship games for the Clarets so far this campaign.
The Englishman has created four chances, has a pass accuracy of 78% and a shot accuracy of 50%, and has won 13 headers, five headers and 12 tackles.
Burnley are third in the Championship table at the moment with 32 points from 16 matches.
Sean Dyche’s side are just two points behind leaders Hull City and Brighton & Hove Albion, who are first and second respectively in the standings.
