Report provides positive fitness update on six key Sheffield Wednesday players

Sheffield Wednesday are set to welcome a number of injured players back into their first-team set-up.

According to a report in the Sheffield Telegraph, Sheffield Wednesday have been handed a triple fitness boost ahead of their match against Huddersfield Town at the weekend.

Wednesday had feared that they would be without Glenn Loovens, Jack Hunt and Keiren Westwood for the tie against their Yorkshire rivals, but all three are set to be fit.

The Sheffield Telegraph also claim that Alex Lopez could be named in Carlos Carvalhal’s starting line-up, while Modou Sougou is back in training.

Sougou picked up a nasty injury after being hacked down by Clint Hill in a match against Queens Park Rangers last month, but his return to the first-team fold is imminent.

Michael Turner, too, should be available for selection again in the near future, giving Carvalhal a near full squad from which to select.

With many of Wednesday’s players making it off the treatment table, it seems that competition for places at Hillsborough is set to be fierce in the coming weeks.

Wednesday have been in excellent form of late - losing just one of their last 12 matches - but they will want to avoid any complacency as they aim to break into the play-offs.
