Aston Villa are hoping to sign some major reinforcements in January.
Scoring goals has been a real issue with Villa’s season, and they have netted just 10 times in 12 Premier League games. It is only attacking players who have chipped in with strikes, and Garde wants to sign a player who can bring an added goal threat from deep.
The Villa midfield players are all predominately defensive, and whilst they may be strong passers of the ball and be able to keep possession well, there is little offensive drive from the middle third of the pitch.
Not only does this take away a goal threat, but it also means the strikers have a lack of support from midfield, and that has likely been one of the issues with Villa’s poor offensive displays.
Garde wants to improve this goal threat from midfield, and signing a goalscoring midfielder is his priority ahead of the January window.
The report states that Arnor Traustason is one of the many players being tracked by Garde and his scouting team ahead of January, but there are no indications yet that the French boss has identified which specific player he wants to bring in.
