Newcastle United assistant manager Paul Simpson has told the Chronicle that Aleksandar Mitrovic needs to improve on a lot of areas of his game.
Mitrovic arrived at Newcastle in the summer transfer window from Anderlecht and he has made a big impression at St. James’ Park.
And Simpson says that although Newcastle want to build their team around the Serbian’s talents, he still has a lot of progression to do if he is to fulfill his potential.
“We’ve gone with Mitro over the last run of games and I think we’re trying to develop the team with Mitro in it because he’s got a fantastic work ethic,” Simpson said.
“He’s still got lots of things in his game that he needs to improve on but he’s got the sort of attitude that he wants to improve and wants to work on them.”
Mitrovic’s passion and desire has stood out for Newcastle so far, with the target-man bullying defences with his aggressive style.
The 21-year-old looks perfectly suited to playing in the Premier League, and his partnership with Ayoze Perez has been encouraging.
If there is an area where Mitrovic needs to improve it is with his goalscoring prowess, though.
The powerful forward has netted just three times in his first 12 matches, and he will be eager to improve that ratio as the season progresses.
