Newcastle fans got another look at Hatem Ben Arfa as he started for France at Wembley.
Hatem Ben Arfa's redemption story was put on pause at Wembley as he struggled to produce the form he has been showing in France.
This time last year he was on loan from Newcastle at Hull City, and after both clubs decided they did not want him, he was released from his contract.
Ben Arfa has been rebuilding his career at French side Nice, and has scored an impressive seven goals in Ligue 1 this season, earning his first call-up for his country in four seasons.
Against England at Wembley he was substituted at half time with France 1-0 down, with England going onto double their lead in the second half.
Ben Arfa touched the ball only 24 times, completing 76 per cent of his passes, but did record one goalscoring opportunity.
Despite his underwhelming display he remains a big talent, and it is good to see him back on the big stage after his career had seemed in sudden danger of spiralling waywardly.
Here is a look at how Newcastle fans reacted on Twitter to his performance...
Well Ben Arfa done nothing to convince me why most #NUFC fans revere him as a God-like player.— Jordan Gibbon (@Gibbo2910) November 17, 2015
Defensively Ben Arfa doesn't want to know but I'd still rather have him at #NUFC ahead of Cabella and Thauvin— Dan McManus (@DanMc4301) November 17, 2015
Ben Arfa giving the ball away with alarming regularity. Some things never change, apart from his waistline #nufc— Andrew Murdy (@Andrew_Murdy) November 17, 2015
More concerned we didn't sign Deli Alli than the fact we let Ben Arfa go to be honest... #nufc— David Tench (@DT3NCH) November 17, 2015
Great seeing Hatem Ben Arfa back playing international football. Far too good for #NUFC U21's.— Ross Stears (@TheRosscoGospel) November 17, 2015
