The defender was handed a start by manager Roy Hodgson in the friendly with France on Tuesday and put in another star performance.
Starting alongside Chelsea’s Gary Cahill, Stones looked comfortable throughout the game, in a highly accomplished performance that belied his young age.
He has made a strong start to the season once again with Everton, having starred for them in the last few seasons under Roberto Martinez’s tutelage.
Many are predicting him to have a bright future in the game, and Redknapp is one of them, saying England may have their future captain on their hands.
“England have got such a special talent in John Stones and I think he is a future captain,” he told the Daily Mail.
“I loved when he stepped out from the back and glided past three France player. He lost the ball eventually but Roy Hodgson should be encouraging him to play like that as it could be a dangerous weapon at Euro 2016.”
With Stones impressing for club and country, the question now turns to who should partner him in the heart of the England defence.
The current stand out candidate is Manchester United’s Chris Smalling, who has started the season brightly once again under Louis Van Gaal’s tutelage.
There are other contenders however, with Gary Cahill’s experience sure to be considered a bonus, while the likes of Phil Jones and Phil Jagielka are also pushing for a place.
Who Hodgson picks will surely be of great debate in the run up to Euro 2016, but one thing is certain, it is a nice problem for the England boss to have.
