Valencia said: “Dimitri has been having a spectacular season so far, he has been one of the best players in the Premier League. I haven’t had the chance to play so much this season but Dimitri has played every game and he’s been the main man. The Club did make some very good signings this summer so I think there are players who can come in and do well and keep our form going.”
Valencia has missed much of the season through injury, but whilst he has been sat on the sidelines, Payet has been establishing himself as one of the best players in the division.
He is a goalscorer and a goal creator, and not only is he statistically impressive, but watching the Frenchman is a joy to behold.
However, Payet is now injured, and is expected to be out of action for up to there months.
His loss will be heavily felt by Slaven Bilic’s men, and the Croatian boss will be hoping the likes of Manuel Lanzini and Victor Moses can step up in his absence to provide the creative flair for the Hammers.
It will be hard to replace Payet’s influence in the starting XI, and with Valencia himself out of action West Ham are missing another goal threat, and this could be the part of the season when the East London side start to struggle.
The Hammers have been performing far above expectations this term, but with Payet on the sidelines, there is a feeling that results may start to drop off over the coming weeks.
