Other star performers included Eric Dier and Jack Butland.
Joe Hart - 6
Didn't have much to do so hard to give him a big ranking. Was sharp off his line at one point in the first-half. Solid.
Gary Cahill - 7
Made some good blocks and grew into the game.
John Stones - 8
People will moan about him losing the ball further up the pitch but at least he takes it there. He adds a different dimension that England desperately need. Comfortable taking the ball from the keeper and a must starter for the Euros.
Nathaniel Clyne - 7
The Liverpool man is certainly a better option than Kyle Walker. His pace a real asset down the right he looks the starting right-back.
Kieran Gibbs - 6
Solid performance from the Arsenal defender.
Eric Dier - 8
If it comes down to Dier or Carrick, at the moment the Tottenham man deserves the nod. He was excellent in holding midfield and is a more athletic option than the Manchester United man.
Dele Alli - 9
Talk about taking your chance.
The youngster scored a stunning goal that he started with his own crunching tackle. He then outmuscled Paul Pogba, no mean feat, starting the move for the second.
Hodgson now has a headache.
Ross Barkley - 7
Played well, although was outshone by his Tottenham midfield partners.
Raheem Sterling - 7
Delivered a great ball for the Rooney goal but still makes the wrong decision too much of the time. Still however a must starter.
Wayne Rooney - 8
Took his goal really well and did well in link up play.
Harry Kane - 7
Worked really hard again and proved he can play with Rooney.
Jack Butland - 8
Was fantastic when he came on. Made a great save from Anthony Martial and was commanding of his area. His distribution looked better than Hart's and was not afraid to go short instead of long.
Adam Lallana, Jonjo Shelvey, Phil Jones and Ryan Bertrand didn't really have time to make an impact after coming on.
