The latest on Aston Villa's search for a new goalkeeper.
According to a report from the Birmingham Mail Aston Villa are continuing their search for a new young goalkeeper who can ultimately develop into the club’s number one for years to come.
However, it is being suggested that Remi Garde’s side are unlikely to make such a signing as early as January.
The latest report claims Villa have run the rule over a number of potential options this season including Sunderland’s Jordan Pickford, Brentford’s Lewis Button and Southend’s David Bentley.
It remains to be seen if Villa will make a move for any of the trio in due course, and certainly in the case of Pickford Sunderland would be highly unlikely to let him go, but only time will tell.
As things stand Garde has Brad Guzan as his number one, but the 31-year-old will not be around forever and Villa are said to want to sign a player they can develop over a period of time – a youngster with the potential to be the club’s first-choice stopper for a decade and beyond.
Garde has a lot of work to do after replacing Tim Sherwood as Villa’s manager, so it is no surprise that their ongoing search for a new stopper will allegedly go on into the summer.
