Joao was signed by Wednesday during the summer transfer window, and not too much was known about the 22-year-old.
However, the target-man has quickly made an impression at Hillsborough – and Hinchcliffe has been dazzled by what he has seen so far.
“Sheffield Wednesday have been a real success story so far this season - and Lucas Joao has been a big part of it,” Hinchcliffe said.
“I'll admit, I saw the name, I didn't know much about him and I was wondering what type of player we were going to get. I've seen him on four or five occasions this season; he was fantastic against Arsenal in the League Cup as well.
“He's got everything you need to be successful, not just in the Championship but as a striker in the modern game. He's got pace, he's got strength, he can hold the ball up, he can score goals, he's good in the air and on the floor. I've been really impressed and the team plays to his strengths by getting plenty of crosses in.”
Joao has scored four times in 18 matches for Wednesday since joining, with his all-action style threatening defences.
Championship sides have struggled to deal with Joao’s pace and power, and his good form has recently earned him international recognition.
The former Nacional striker played in both of Portugal’s matches over the current international break, increasing his reputation considerably.
Joao’s rapid rise has not gone unnoticed by higher placed clubs than Wednesday, with Everton linked by The Sun earlier in the week, and it seems that the Owls could face a fight to keep hold of the youngster on a long-term basis.
