Sheffield Wednesday's Jose Semedo doubts club can keep hold of Lucas Joao

Sheffield Wednesday striker Lucas Joao has already been linked with Everton.

Jose Semedo has told BBC Sport that he is concerned Lucas Joao could leave Sheffield Wednesday in the near future, as he is so talented.

Joao only moved to Wednesday in the summer transfer window, but he has already made a huge impression at Hillsborough.

The Portuguese striker has quickly broken into the Owls’ starting line-up, and Semedo feels that there is only so long Wednesday will be able to keep hold of him, without top level football.

"I don't believe he will be that long for us because I think the giants will be wanting him soon," Semedo said.

"Obviously I want the best for my club and I hope he can take us to the big stage. I would love him to be with us but I don't think he will be for long."

Joao’s recent run of excellent form has seen him earn a call-up to the Portuguese national squad.

The 22-year-old has troubled defences across the Championship, and he has netted four times in his first 18 appearances in all competitions.

Wednesday will be hoping that they can keep hold of him for as long as possible, but already interest in the powerful forward is starting to mount.

The Sun have reported that Everton are interested in signing Joao, and it seems that Wednesday could have a fight on their hands to keep hold of their star striker over the next few months.
