According to the Gloustershire Echo, Southampton have made a bid for Cheltenham Town attacker Luke Thomas.
The report states that Southampton have made a five-figure bid for the 16-year-old, who has attracted interest from the likes of Derby County, Tottenham Hotspur, Bristol City, Arsenal and Chelsea.
The report adds that he appeared on the Saints' radar following the Robins' pre-season tour in Portugal, where he spent time on trial with former European Champions Benfica.
Despite his age, Thomas has appeared on the bench for Cheltenham four times this season and would have broken the club's 20-year-old record as their youngest ever player had he come on against Tranmere Rovers on 26th September.
Nevertheless, he has been in outstanding form for the under-18 side and already has 14 goals to his name, including six in the FA Youth Cup.
Does Thomas represent a good gamble for the interested clubs?
The 16-year-old is clearly something special and looks to have the ability that could see him one day reach the Premier League.
The clubs interested have done their homework on the youngster and will be desperate not to miss out, especially as the figure Southampton have reportedly bid isn't going to break the bank.
A move to Derby County and Bristol City could see him progress quicker into the first-team. However, with the likes of Southampton, Tottenham and Chelsea interested, it would be a surprise to see him go anywhere other than to a Premier League side in the near future.
