Report: Chelsea set to make £20m bid to beat Tottenham to Saido Berahino

Chelsea are interested in signing Saido Berahino from West Bromwich Albion.

Chelsea are planning to make a bid for West Bromwich Albion striker Saido Berahino, report The Telegraph.

The report states Chelsea are planning to offer £20 million, and believe they can convince the Baggies into a sale.

Signing the England under-21 international would be a coup over London rivals Tottenham Hotspur, who as The Telegraph report, made multiple attempts to sign Berahino in the summer.

While Tottenham's bids were higher, Chelsea plan on offering the money up front rather than in installments, a point of contention for West Brom chairman Jeremy Peace.

Chelsea have struggled this season and currently sit in 16th place, but have too much quality to finish in the bottom half of the table, and are still capable of climbing back up the league.

They may have left themselves with too much to do, but Berahino could prove to be significant in helping them catch Tottenham in the table.

Going to Stamford Bridge could be tricky for the striker, who will not want to be a bit part player bought only to add to the club's homegrown quota list.

Yet Radamel Falcao is unlikely to be there when his loan expires - and Chelsea could even look to get out of the deal in January, with the Colombian scoring only once this season, while Diego Costa has looked a shadow of the player who lit up the Premier League at the start of last season.
