According to a report by Italian transfer expert Gianluca di Marzio, Chelsea are closing in on a deal for Bologna’s highly-rated star Amadou Diawara.
The 18-year-old midfielder made his Serie A debut in August of this year and has since established himself in the Bologna midfield, making nine starts and a further three appearances from the bench.
Predominantly a defensive midfielder, the Guinea-born youngster has impressed greatly as he averages 1.7 tackles and 2.3 interceptions per league encounter.
His rise to prominence in Italy hasn’t gone unnoticed, with Juventus and Milan said to be monitoring his situation.
However, Gianluca di Marzio reports that Chelsea are in pole position to sign him after his agent Robert Visan reached an agreement with Roman Abramovich’s representative Pini Zahavi.
“Amadou Diawara has made a name for himself at Bologna this season. The midfielder born in 1997 has attracted the interest of many top clubs, including Chelsea. Mourinho's club is in pole position to sign him after his agent Robert Visan reached an agreement with Pini Zahavi,” the report reads.
Building for the future:
Chelsea have made quite a name for themselves in Europe as a club who have invested huge amounts of money in youth players from both England and abroad.
The Blues have a squad in the region of 60 players, with a good number of their younger stars currently on the continent enjoying loan spells in Europe’s biggest leagues.
Diawara would very much fit in this category of recruit, and any potential move to Stamford Bridge could come with an immediate loan switch back to his current club Bologna.
