The Liverpool defender has been suffering with a severe knee problem.
Liverpool defender Jon Flanagan had an exceptional 2013-14 season. Brendan Rodgers roped in the youngster to strengthen the back four and he really impressed for the club. He played 25 games last season and earned his first England cap against Ecuador in the summer.
He even scored his first goal for the club, netting against Tottenham Hotspur in a 5-0 win in December 2013.
Unfortunately, things soon took a turn for the worse. He picked up a knee injury in pre-season and has not played a game since.
Flanagan's last appearance for Liverpool came in a 2-1 win against Newcastle United in May 2014.
So after 18 months out this picture on his Instagram should present a hint that he is nearing a return:
Flanagan appears to be lacing up his boots once again after two surgeries on his severe knee injury and in the coming months it looks like Jurgen Klopp might be able to call upon the player.
Flanagan was handed a 12-month deal last year and he will need to prove his fitness over the rest of the season if he is to extend his stay with the Liverpool first-team. Beyond that, he might even have his eyes on a late surge for the England team in the summer. Here's hoping he can stay fit and thrive at Anfield.
