The Rennes stopper is currently France's third choice keeper.
Aston Villa have been linked with a host of goalkeepers in recent weeks.
It comes after fears grow over the inconsistent performances of USA international Brad Guzan between the sticks for the club.
He recently put in a good performance against Manchester City in Remi Garde's first game in charge but the Frenchman would do well to look in Ligue 1 for a replacement, or at the very least competition, for the current incumbent.
The perfect option would be Rennes keeper Benoit Costil.
The 28-year-old has been a solid presence in the goalmouth at Rennes for the past few seasons after getting his career back on track at Sedan.
Last year he received his first call-up to the French national team and is currently the third-choice stopper behind Tottenham Hotspur and Les Bleus captain Hugo Lloris and Marseille custodian Steve Mandanda.
He has not yet made his international debut for France but his place in the squad is certainly merited given his recent form for Les Rouges et Noirs.
He is about to enter the final 18 months of his contract at Rennes and would be in good company at Villa with the list of Ligue 1 recruits they have recently acquired.
Likely to be affordable and a dependable keeper with pedigree. Costil is certainly an option they should consider.
