Aston Villa manager Remi Garde has to make a big call regarding his full-back options.
Following the news that Aston Villa left-back Jordan Amavi will miss the rest of the season with an anterior cruciate ligament injury, the club’s new manager Remi Garde has a lot of thinking to do.
There are a few options to replace the young Frenchman in the starting line-up, some more likely to please Villa fans than others, but one player who may be the perfect replacement for Amavi would need to be recalled early from an unsuccessful loan spell in order to feature.
Joe Bennett joined Bournemouth on loan in the summer but despite agreeing a temporary deal until January he is yet to feature for Eddie Howe’s side.
Named as an unused substitute on seven occasions this season, it seems Bennett has little chance of making an impact at the Cherries before he heads back to Villa Park, and with Amavi’s absence set to be keenly felt surely the sensible option would be to bring the 25-year-old back early.
Bennett has only played 38 times for Villa’s first team but he has proved to be an effective attacking option in that time, scoring one goal and setting up six more. And with Kieran Richardson likely to be Garde’s alternative there will be plenty of fans hoping to see the younger player given the chance to impress.
Garde may opt for what he knows (or at least what he has seen on his own training ground) but Bennett appears to be the most suitable option to replace a player who was impressing prior to his injury blow.
