Jordan Ayew was reportedly forced to sit out of injury through injury.
It was reported by GhanaWeb yesterday that Jordan Ayew had been forced to sit out of international training with Ghana due to injury, but the Ghanaian FA have eased Aston Villa’s fears via GhanaSoccerNet.
Speaking today, FA spokesman Ibrahim Daara clarified the situation, saying: “Jordan doesn't have any injury worries. He trained on Saturday and ended early because those who started the match were on recovery training.”
It was not that Ayew had missed training through injury, as first thought, but that he sat out of the session due to being in a recovery session, which means the training level is not as high.
Rather than risk injury in a post match situation, Ayew was given the day off to ensure he is fully recovered ahead of Ghana’s second leg tie with Comoros in the 2018 World Cup qualifying stages.
Ayew played the full 90 minutes of the first leg game, in which Ghana struggled to a 0-0 draw with the lowly-ranked Comoros. He is fit and expected to play the full game again on Tuesday, when the Black Stars host the second leg in Kumasi.
The knowledge that Ayew is fully fit will be welcome news for Villa boss Remi Garde, who would have been fearing a second major blow to his first-team, following Jordan Amavi’s season ending injury suffered whilst on Under-21 duty with France.
