England’s under-21 side take on Switzerland in their latest UEFA European U21 Championship qualifying match this evening.
Gareth Southgate’s side is currently top of Group 9 with seven points from their first three matches, but with tonight’s opponents behind them only on goal-difference the young Lions will know the importance of a home victory to start to put some breathing room between them and the chasing pack.
Norway also have seven points but they have played a game more, so this encounter could be one of the key games in the qualifying campaign.
Among those players on show for England this evening are Arsenal defender Calum Chamber and Southampton duo James Warde-Prowse and Matt Targett.
Chelsea are also well represented with the likes of Dominic Solanke, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Lewis Baker all playing while there are also some very exciting options for Southgate to call on from the bench if necessary.
This should be an interesting and close encounter with the winners knowing they will be taking a huge step towards qualification.
Chelsea are fast becoming the go-to club for England's next generation of players but Southampton stars past and present continue to show the great work going on at the south coast club right now.
